**The Digital vs. Physical Debate: Seeking Your Input**

**The Digital vs. Physical Debate: Seeking Your Input**
We’d love to hear about our future project releases from our loyal customers.

Some of our upcoming projects, like documentary scores and obscure titles, may not be viable for physical release due to limited appeal. We strive to provide a physical-like experience for digital releases, offering high-resolution audio and a digital booklet with accompanying notes.

We have a few questions for you:

a. Have you purchased our digital releases, and did the presentation meet your expectations?

b. If a score is released only in digital format, would you consider purchasing it?

c. How can we enhance the digital presentation of our releases?

We appreciate your feedback!

d.) What is your General age, or what generation do you belong to? (Babu Boomers, Gen X, etc..)

I think the opinions reflect a generation difference between young fans and older fans.

Sincerely,
The Staff of BSX Records and Dragon’s Domain Recordings

    Hi Ford,
I bought both formats and i’m always pleased the dedication put in these releases, they are great! If it means releasing obscure film or tv (mini) series download only, then I welcome it.
I’m Gen X and saw a lot of film and tv (mini) series and always wished for the music have a release somehow and thankfully there are labels such as Buysoundtrax who put there dedication and effort to give us a treasure trove of magnificent music!
Thank you Ford for this opportunity!
Looking forward for future releases, Download or Cd, it is fine by me.
    Greetings,
    Jurgen

    a. Have you purchased our digital releases, and did the presentation meet your expectations?
Yes, I have purchased both digital only and combos. I tend to go for digital only if the material is something I am curious about but not passionate. Storage space and just having more “stuff” are factors in going digital only. I like having the option.

When a release is new and I really want it, I go for the CD + DD version. I love being able to instantly get the files, not have to worry about the ripping when the CD arrives and can then keep the shrink-wrap on the CD to preserve it. I don’t sell my CDs, but I guess if something happened to me, my family would liquidate it!

If a score is released only in digital format, would you consider purchasing it?
Yes, for sure, especially if I like the composer already. Digital only would in now way prevent me from buying. In some cases, I choose digital only since I don’t need the CD.

    c. How can we enhance the digital presentation of our releases?
Well, I know it’s mostly inaudible, but I would love higher-res versions. I would also love a player/library function on the website to experience my purchases if I am on the road.

    We appreciate your feedback!
Thanks for asking! Keep up the super enjoyable releases.

d.) What is your General age, or what generation do you belong to? (Babu Boomers, Gen X, etc..)
    Gen X.

As a collector, physically holding a representation of the score is something a DD cannot replicate. I love the CD medium and will continue to support it.

As far as BSX downloads are concerned, I’ve purchased many (because they were free with my CD) but I’ve never downloaded any of them. The CDs are fantastic. Having both options is great however for those who like digital collecting.

I was disappointed that GOLIATH AWAITS got a CDR pressing. For its limited availability, George Duning deserved a silver disc, IMO

I hope BSX & Dragon’s Domain continue CD productions ❤️🎶

    a. Have you purchased our digital releases, and did the presentation meet your expectations?
No. There was a defect. Still haven’t gotten you to fix or replace. Another album had massive typos on track name.

If a score is released only in digital format, would you consider purchasing it?
    Absolutely yes.
    c. How can we enhance the digital presentation of our releases?
    Add digital booklets.

Thank you Ford for the survey. As a regular customer, the current CD + digital combo sounds great to me. Physical CD release always better but I still can live with a digital download only option if this process may help more obscure/forgotten nice Silver Age 1965>1985 film or TV soundtracks to be released. In case of digital only , please consider to offer a complete digital front and back covers PDF set ready-to-print to fill in a standard jewel box for a home made CDr presentation. Regards, Thierry

I prefer a physical copy. I hope if it is a title with a large enough following, it will remain physical CD. There’s nothing quite like the real thing. You can try to do pdfs and cover art and such, but it’s not the same. I enjoy collecting Brian May and am proud to have space in the shelf for many of his CDs. I’d hate to have to remember that a handful of his scores are just on my computer which could crash or get corrupted.

a, not bought any – but many of the regular CDs (mostly from european retrailers)
    b. not really – I’ m a CD collector – I even don’ t buy delivery-on-demand CD-Rs (normally with only very small exceptions)
    c. for me not neccessary but other collectors – other ideas…

I like both formats and am glad you provide digital downloads with the cds.If only digital is available then yes I would buy it!

  • Sean Nethery - February 26, 2025

    a. Yes
    b. Absolutely, if I particularly value the score and/or composer
    c. No enhancement necessary for me.

  • Kevin McGann - February 26, 2025

CD or nothing for me. If it’s not available on CD, I’ll just burn a CDR from the digital myself and make do with that.
