BSX Records presents Bukimisha’s stunning “a capella’ recreation of Akira Ifukube’s fabulous score to BATTLE IN OUTER SPACE (1959). Not your typical Toho special effects extravaganza, this film was a rousing tour-de-force sci-fi action/adventure of a united Earth battling a hostile alien armada.

Akira Ifukube’s score is a brilliant mix of motifs, representing the unsettling mystery and danger of outer space, as well as the determination of the brave men and women who volunteer to meet the intergalactic threat. From an unprovoked attack on a space station to alien mind control on helpless humans, the film’s final act is a breath-taking dogfight, not only in the skies over Japan, but with squadrons of craft meeting in space. It’s a battle that preceded STAR WARS by almost two decades! Yet, despite Columbia Pictures retaining much of the original score, their American version replaced the maestro’s rousing battle march with mediocre stock music.

Bonus tracks include a selection of concert arrangements that feature the genesis of the musical themes used in BATTLE IN OUTER SPACE, or were themselves inspired by the score. They include one of Ifukube's earliest military compositions, “Kishi Mai” (“Auspicious Dance” or, "March for the Japanese Imperial Navy”), “Toushi Tenshou — Theme for Masaaki Satake (1994),” a later composition especially written for the renowned Japanese kick boxer, and finally, a 1999 brass band arrangement of the "Frigate March" cue from the original GODZILLA.

This album has been mastered by James Nelson at Digital Outland from the group’s original digital recordings, all supervised and approved by Takeo Yahiro & their great mentor, Dr. Bukimi.
