Dragon’s Domain Records presents SAFE HOUSE, featuring music composed by Kevin Kiner (STAR WARS: THE BAD BATCH, PEACEMAKER, AHSOKA) for the 1998 psychological thriller directed by Eric Steven Stahl, written by Stahl along with John Schalter and Sean McLain, starring Patrick Stewart, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, Hector Elizondo, Joy Kilpatrick, Craig Shoemaker and Julia Vera.
Prolific composer Kevin Kiner began his film music career in 1985, scoring a number of television projects, including all 100+ episodes of the syndicated 1988-92 superhero TV series SUPERBOY. His subsequent, mostly television, endeavors range from animated STAR WARS series such as THE CLONE WARS, THE BAD BATCH and AHSOKA, Westerns and cop TV shows like WALKER, TEXAS RANGER, CSI: MIAMI and NARCOS: MEXICO, and DC superhero shows such as DOOM PATROL, PEACEMAKER and TITANS.
Released in 1998, SAFE HOUSE tells the story of Mace Sowell (Stewart), a retired agent of the Defense Intelligence Agency who believes his life is in mortal danger from his former boss, Thomas Michelmore (Livingston), who is running for President of the United States. Sowell is in possession of career-razing information threatening Michelmore’s campaign. This material is stored on a remote server programmed to be sent to every major news outlet in the country unless Sowell remotely reconfigures the code every 24 hours using a special password only he knows. To complicate matters further, Sowell is suffering from the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease and confined to his home. After Michelmore dispatches men to his home, Sowell must convince his daughter, Andi (Williams-Paisley) that there’s a real threat and he’s not just being paranoid...
After an unsuccessful attempt to hire his favorite composer, Jerry Goldsmith, for the project, director Eric Steven Stahl was referred to Kevin Kiner by an agent and was immediately convinced he was the right guy for the job after listening to a few minutes of his demo. To this day, the director and the composer remain close...
Kiner’s score for SAFE HOUSE was recorded live in a seven-hundred square foot room in Kiner’s house, recording small groups at a time and then overdubbing them again and again to build up a larger orchestral sound.
Dragon’s Domain Records presents the premiere release of SAFE HOUSE, featuring music composed by Kevin Kiner. The liner notes are written by composer and author Brian Satterwhite, featuring the participation of the composer and the director. The music has been mastered by James Nelson at Digital Outland.
